After the passed weekends ridiculous events. Its truly solidified how I feel about edmontons hardcore scene. It renewed my love of my friends/bands/atmosphere that this city has. The 780 is as strong as ever and its great to see. I wont go into details over the bullshit that ensued over the internet. I will however touch on the fact, that the second I entered heartfest I felt unwanted. The fest seemed to be organized, even for a charitable reason, for their scene of ottawa/gatenau/montreal. I felt as if I was being judged and the atmosphere was almost aggravated that these "alberta" kids infiltrated their "brotherly love fest". Most people I walked passed would look at what t shirt I was wearing and proceed to either give me a dirty look or smile because they liked the band I was wearing. It really disgusted me to see what hardcore has become in their scene. Long gone are the days of acceptance and non judgement. Yes I understand judgement is human nature but I figured people were still open to the idea of changing an Idea or judgement of someone through conversation. I love how edmonton isnt a popularity contest for the most part and we all seem, even with differing opinions on various subjects, to be able to move forward and accept everyone for who they are. So this rant is basically a big thank you to edmonton hardcore. A thank you to staying true to the ideals our scene has fought for, for a vey long time. I love edmonton and wouldnt trade any of it for the world. Slumlord, contention, low level, times tide, disabler, master splinter, lucid skies, exits, ringleader, failgiver and the other numerous bands from past/present/future thank you for always keeping the music side of the scene alive. I love the 780 through and though, and I hope that I can keep giving back everyrhing I can to a scene that accepted someone from a different city as one of their own. Real recognize real.
